Bulacan’s Cases of A-H1N1 Infection

Students from Bulacan was tested positive for A-H1N1 infection as the boys whoreprtedly have the symptoms underwent some tests in RITM form their throat swabs samples. Health officials said they could not yet determine the source of the virus but clarified that it was not yet a community outbreak. Reported flu cases at the Doña Candelaria Meneses Duque Memorial High School in Barangay Bambang, Bulacan and other parts of the country raised the total to 193. However, according to Dr. Joycelyn Gomez, Bulacan Provincial Public Health Officer said there is nothing to fear yet because all the cases are mild and nobody has been hospitalized as the students are recuperating in their respective homes and they still have to check the level of transmission before declaring a community outbreak in their area.

3 cases of A-H1N1 Confirmed By Ateneo

According to Father Raymund-Benedict Hizon, S.J. Ateneo de Manila High School principal, they confirmed three cases of A-H1N1 virus to their high school students. The three infected boys were advised to rest at home and continue with their self-quarantine for 10 days, with no need for hospitalization. Meanwhile, they have suspended the classes and plans to resume in June 22. A background information has been obtained and it was established that the high school students have no siblings in the Ateneo Grade School. Ateneo advised any of its students and staff who have flu-like symptoms to call its hotline at (02)426-5930 during office hours or call/text 0918-9144633 for any information regarding that dreaded disease.

46 Cases of A-H1N1 Virus, Confirmed by DOH

A total number of 46 cases of A-H1N1 virus was confirmed by DOH for the past weeks. The case was discovered in FEU-East Asia College in Quezon City. DepEd Secretary Jesli Lapus advised the public not to panic, specially the parents as they received reports of a confirmed case in a public school in Marikina as the student showed some symptoms of the disease. Francisco Duque of DOH said,the infected persons reached to 46 and although it’s a big number, we are fortunate enough that all of these are just mild cases which are consistent with most of the cases of A-H1N1 in other affected countries.

3rd A-H1N1 Case in DLSU, Confirmed by DOH

Another DLSU Student was confirmed of having the A-H1N1 virus according to DOH . The new case is a 17-year-old male student that could not recall whether or not he had contact with two other Japanese students who tested positive for the disease. DOH Secretary Francisco Duque also confirmed another 3 cases of these virus bringing them to a total of 33 cases in the country today. Students and faculty members of the school were advised to have a ten-day self quarantine test to ensure their safety against that dreaded virus.

Sen. Gordon Urges to Observe Proper Hygiene

Senator Richard Gordon advises students and the public to maintain proper hygiene at all times to prevent the spread of A-H1N1 virus,. DOH has reported that the number of confirmed cases of Influenza A (H1N1) in the Philippines has risen to 16 with 29 new cases under observation as of May 30. He urges the public specially the students to follow the proper hygiene procedures to prevent this dreaded disease and be protected from these virus. It is also advise to ensure proper nutrition to make ourself immune and fight the virus.

Dengue, More deadly than A-H1N1

According to Senior Supt. Francisco P. Altajeros, deputy director of the PNP Health Service, Dengue is something we should have to be afraid more than A-H1N1 virus. Although there are two cases of confirmed H1N1 in the country, it should not cause major alarm since swine flu’s case fatality is less than 0.1 percent as compared to dengue which has a greater fatality rate. Meanwhile, PNP Health Service has conducted a series of seminars on quarantine procedures among officers and men of the Special Action Force, Aviation Security Group, Maritime Group, Crime Laboratory and the Police-Community Relations Group to give them more information and be aware of what will be the precautionary measures to do to prevent these diseases.

Swine Flu Vaccine is About to Come – Novartis

Swiss Drug maker Novartis, is now on its way to produce an anti- flu vaccine as they received the samples of the said virus from WHO yesterday.They were just waiting for the World Health Organization’s go signal on when they will start producing the said vaccine.Just as today,Japan has reported another case of infected person of the A-H1N1 virus.WHO is counting an output of 94.3 million doses a week if full-scale production is launched, according to a presentation made to pharmaceutical companies at a meeting in our country.WHO for their signal to begin the process.Meantime, the production of 4.9 billion doses of a swine flu vaccine a year would be possible, according to an extract of a WHO forecast presented to vaccine makers that was seen by AFP when they had their meeting here in the Philippines just recently.

7 New Patients, Observed By DOH

The Department of Health is observing 7 patients for possible infection from the dreaded A-H1N1 virus.3 of them were sent to a private hospital while the other four is observed in RITM in Alabang.Up to this moment, DOH is not yet declaring any possible case of A-H1N1 in the country.

Prohibit Selling of Silver Cleaners – Environmentalists

The environmentalist groups are calling the public to prohibit the use of silver cleaners that is used mostly in jewelries and other silver products.This was after they have received reports of silver polish poisoning.The said cleaner contains toxic and cyanide chemicals that would be dangerous when ingested.The Eco Waste Coalition have reported 99 cases of silver cleaner poisoning,11 of them were accidental and the remaining 88 is none-accidental.They also appealed to the public not to use these chemicals but to use an alternative instead.

H1N1 Flu Info Drive in Schools

DepEd issued Memorandum No. 206 of 2009 directing school officials across the country to conduct an information drive on the nature and prevention of the the H1N1 virus.This acts will disseminate information on the nature, transmission, signs and symptoms, prevention and control of the disease.They want to implement this measures on June 1, the start of the opening of classes.
