Boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao is the cover boy of the very first issue (October 2011) of Esquire Philippines magazine.

Summit Media, publisher of the magazine’s local version describes Esquire as a magazine that delivers facts, opinions, and ideas on a variety of subjects that relates to the lifestyle of today’s successful and affluent man. The publishing company launched the magazine last night in an event called the Esquire Ball.

ABS-CBN’s Precious Hearts Romances presents Impostor was nominated in the Best Telenovela category in the International Emmy Awards 2011.

Other nominees in the said category are Contra las Cuerdas (Argentina), Destiny River (Brazil), and Lacos de Sangue (Portugal). Impostor starred Maja Salvador, Melai Cantiveros, Jason Francisco, and Sam Milby and had its run from May 17, 2010 – September 17, 2010 in the Philippines. ABS-CBN is the only network in the Philippines that earned an International Emmy nomination this year. Its primetime newscast TV Patrol was also nominated in the Best News category.

International acoustic singer Jason Mraz will be visiting Philippines for his concert entitled “Jason Mraz special acoustic evening with Toca Rivera.”

Thai actor Mario Maurer will reportedly be doing a movie for ABS-CBN’s movie arm, Star Cinema.

Production of the movie will start in March 2012 and there are rumors that young actress Erich Gonzales will be his leading lady. There will be 10 shooting days in Manila then 15 days in Bangkok, Thailand. The said movie will be directed by Rory Quintos.

Meanwhile, there will be a conference for Mario Maurer fans that will be held on October 28, 2011 at the PICC Plenary Hall in Manila. The conference will be hosted by MTV VJ Utt (Panichkul).

Tony Award-winning singer and actress Lea Salonga was reportedly selected as one of the 7 judges of the upcoming Miss Universe 2011 pageant in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Oscar nominee Eddie Murphy, whose performing career spans movies, television and the stage, will host this year’s Academy Awards show on Sunday, February 26, 2012. This will be Murphy’s first hosting stint on the Oscars.

Murphy began his career at the age of 15 as a stand-up comedian. In 1980, at the age of 19, he joined the cast of “Saturday Night Live,” becoming the show’s youngest cast member to that point, and bringing to life many of the show’s most memorable characters. His 1983 album, “Eddie Murphy: Comedian,” won a Grammy Award for Best Comedy Recording. It included portions of his groundbreaking HBO special, “Eddie Murphy Delirious.” In 1987 “Eddie Murphy Raw” was theatrically released and went on to gross over $50 million. “The Kitchen Musical” will be aired on Studio 23 every Saturday from 7:30-8:30PM. It will premiere on Oct 8, 2011. The first episode will also be aired on ABS-CBN’s “Sunday’s Best.”

The photoshoot for this cover took place in Ayutthaya, Thailand.
